To prevent sports injuries, some stretches can be done to help prevent several common injuries.

Here are some simple suggestions to save your back next time you’re on the links:

Take the time to stretch and properly warm up.  Before your game, take the time to do some basic stretches. Extend your hamstrings and groin. Warm up your hips. Trust us, you’ll be thankful later. Be sure to do “neck rolls,” which can loosen up your neck and should muscles.

It’s really important to be mindful of warming up in the winter. Injuries in cold weather are more common when the weather is cold.

Use your golf club to do some isometrics. Put your golf club across your shoulders and lean left and right. This will help stretch your lower back and hips. You can also grab your golf club behind your back with both hands, one by your neck and the other by your hips. This stretch will help your shoulders and upper back. When stretching, hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds.

Practice your swing… slowly. Get in a position of where you would be in a swing and bend left and right.

Work on your balance. You need to have great balance if you want to strike the golf ball consistently. A healthy spinal column is vital to proper balance and posture. Proper alignment may enhance your game and improve your consistency.

Shoe inserts. Don’t forget the gel inserts! Orthopedic stabilizers for your shoes can assist enhance balance, so your swing is better. Uncomfortable shoes can cause tightening in your legs and, ultimately, your lower back. Investing in some orthopedic shoe inserts can be money well spent.
